Description

The REDS Montessori Guide is responsible for leading the classroom community and implementing the Montessori curriculum in accordance with the philosophy and practices of Dr. Maria Montessori, as delineated by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).  The Guide prepares and maintains an environment that supports the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of each child. The Guide holds primary responsibility for the prepared environment, observation and guidance of children, lesson delivery, communication with families, and mentoring/training their teammate (the Assistant Guide).  The Guide works collaboratively with school leadership and colleagues to uphold the mission, values and culture of the school. The Guide serves as a leader, mentor and role model, fostering a respectful, peaceful and purposeful classroom community.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serving as the educational and organizational leader of the classroom by establishing the structure, expectations and tone of the classroom environment and the professional growth of assistant guides and floaters. 
  • Designing and maintaining an orderly, beautiful and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. 
  • Supporting the development of the whole child through thoughtful observation, presentation of lessons and consistent classroom leadership. 
  • Acting as the primary mentor for the classroom’s Assistant Guide 
  • Serving as the primary point of contract for families regarding their child’s development and classroom experience 
  • Establishing a classroom culture that reflects Montessori values.

Role in the Community 

The Guide is a key leader within the school community.  Through thoughtful leadership and collaboration, the Guide helps nurture and sustain a culture where children, educators and families experience respect, trust and a shared commitment to Montessori education. 

Salary Range $85,000 - $125,000 with the higher range for those with the most experience and education.

 

Requirements

  • Meeting all certification requirements, which include: 
    • AMI Montessori teaching credential appropriate to the age group the Guide works with.  
    • Master's degree in a field related to early childhood education. 
    • Completed, or actively working towards a New York State Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education. 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Strong oral, written, presentation and phone skills; communicate clearly with children, families, and staff. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and similar technology for creating Montessori materials, using virtual meeting platforms, and completing electronic forms in website portals. 
  • Demonstrates teamwork, supporting classroom staff, and maintaining professionalism. 
  • Works effectively and respectfully with people of all backgrounds, modeling inclusive and culturally responsive practices. 
  • Organized, reliable, and able to maintain accurate documentation (attendance, observations, incident reports).
